Green Freight Program
Cost-shared funding for trucking fleets to assess fuel use and retrofit or replace trucks and trailers.
About this program
The Green Freight Program helps Canadian freight fleets cut fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions. Stream 1, Assess and Retrofit, covered third-party fleet energy assessments and eligible truck and trailer retrofits, to a maximum of $250,000 per applicant. Stream 2, Fleet Modernization, funded replacing older trucks with more efficient ones. Stream 1 ran a continuous intake from December 12, 2022 until it closed on January 16, 2026, after exceptionally strong demand committed the available funding; Stream 2's competitive call closed on June 2, 2025. Natural Resources Canada has not announced a further intake.
Eligibility
Canadian freight fleet owners and operators, including small and medium-sized trucking businesses. Applicants applied during an open intake for a fleet energy assessment or for equipment retrofits.
