Alberta Enterprise Corporation VC Fund Investments

Alberta Crown corporation investing $415M+ across 39 VC funds that finance Alberta tech companies in ICT, energy, industrial technology, and life sciences.

About this program

Alberta Enterprise Corporation (AEC) is a provincial Crown corporation that promotes Alberta's venture capital industry by investing in VC funds that finance technology companies with strong Alberta commitment. As of December 2024, AEC has committed C$415 million to 39 VC funds covering information technology, energy and industrial technology, and life sciences. Rather than investing directly in startups, AEC anchors fund managers (mostly Canadian VCs) who maintain Alberta presence and back Alberta tech companies. AEC also connects investors, entrepreneurs, and technology executives across Alberta's ecosystem.

Eligibility

AEC invests in VC funds (not startups directly); Alberta tech companies access AEC capital indirectly by raising from AEC-backed VC funds (which include Yaletown Partners, Inovia Capital, and other partners with Alberta commitments).

Requirements

  • For startups: identify AEC-backed VC funds and raise from them
  • Alberta-based technology business
  • Investor-ready business with traction
